Hello all! :)
This week was pretty good! Still had it's challenges, but
there have also been quite a few miracles. :)
Also, it is currently very sunny
outside. And snowing. And I thought Utah weather was crazy...
So to start off, miracle #1! :) On Thursday, we had plans to
bike 40 minutes to St. Ives and spend most of the day there (we had a lot of
referrals and less actives there), but when we woke up and looked outside it
was POURING rain. Naturally though, our first thought was "Doesn't matter!
We are missionaries and we get the job done, rain or shine!" But then we
realized that the footpath we take to bike there, in this kind of rain, would
be extremely dangerous...But we still really wanted to go. So we went into our
bedroom and knelt in prayer. We had faith that if we still needed to go to St.
Ives, the Lord would provide a safer way and protection, and if we shouldn't
go, we would know what we needed to do instead. In the middle of our prayer,
right after we had asked, the phone rang. We sat up and looked at each other,
quickly said amen, and ran to answer! It was the Elders, so we figured they
just had a question or something, but then it turns out they were an answer to
our prayers! They had a stack of former investigators that were all in our area
of Huntingdon that they had been meaning to drop by, and for some reason, they
really felt like they should that morning! So we knew then that we need to do
some former investigator finding. :) It was just amazing to see how everything
had fallen into place after we had decided to pray. But the miracles don't stop
there..... :)
Anyway, we spent the better half of the morning digging
through the giant folder and calling almost EVERYONE, without any success. It
was a little discouraging because we had felt so strongly that is was what we
needed to do. But we had an appointment with a less-active at 3, so we hoped on
our bikes and left! We had an AMAZING lesson with her. She has had a lot of
serious struggles in life, and so we shared Ether 12:27 and the Spirit that was
there was so...tender and indescribable. Then we went about the rest of our day
and returned home at about 8. I was still so determined find someone in the
pile of people, so we went right back to making phone calls. But? Nothing. I
got a hold of one guy, and he told me to call him back in an hour, because he
was helping his son with his homework. (Usually when people say that, they
won't answer the phone again) But, nonetheless, we phone him back an hour
later...AND HE ANSWERED. He said it was kinda crazy because we had called
within the same minute that he finished helping his son. We chatted for a
minute and he said he would love to meet up and chat sometime, he did enjoy
meeting with the sisters before, so he was still a little interested, he just
didn't know what day. So that was pretty neat! And then after, Sister Falcao
and I were talking and I was expressing how happy I was that we had gotten a
hold of him, but how I had also felt like we had maybe done something wrong,
because we had spent so much time and effort into trying to contact these
people, but had gotten so rejected so many times. In the middle of my sentence,
the phone rang. I answered and it was someone we had tried calling! She was SO
sweet, and wanted to come to church! She couldn't this Sunday, but said she
would LOVE to the following. It was just a testimony to me that no effort is
wasted. Yes, it may seem like you are working and working and nothing it
happening, but the Lord will always bless you for your efforts, in whatever way
is best. Because He is the only one that truly knows what is best. :)
The next day we had Zone Meeting! That was AMAZING! :) Elder
Martin and Elder Nielsen put together an amazing video. They compared our missions
to the Plan of Salvation and then had a video of pictures and videos of us from
"pre-earth/mission life" and then mission life. :) The Spirit was
incredible and they focused the rest of the discussion on the question
"Are you becoming who you are?" It was really what I needed to hear.
It also inspired Sister Falcao and I to begin a "purification fast."
It's where you get rid of or change 10 things about your work to help you be
more focused. We really feel strongly that this will help the work in our area
progress more. We haven't been disobedient or lazy or anything, but it's the
principle of going above and beyond. In this mission, we don't wake up at 6:30,
we wake up at 6:29. It's putting the extra effort in to show the Lord your
commitment. Right now, we feel our work is 6:30, and by doing the purification
fast we will be 6:29 missionaries. :)
So this week we also got dropped flat by who we thought was
a golden investigator, so that was pretty discouraging. But the next morning,
we were approached by the 12 year old cousin of a recent convert. She asked us
if she could receive the lessons and be baptised! We were floored and so happy!
Her name is Ana and she is amazing! We taught her lesson 1 and she just kept
saying how much she loved it and believed it and knew it was true. She loves
learning and can't wait to be baptised. :)
Also, this week we sat next to a man who was extremely under
the influence and kept asking what part of America I was from. And
laughing....we also walked in on an African Black Magic party or something. So,
England is alright, I guess. ;)
Well, I just want you all to know that it's true. Every last
bit of it. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true, and has saved my life. I am not
the same person I was before, but I love who I am becoming. I know that the
Book of Mormon is the word of God. The Atonement has the power to changed the
very nature of a person, and Jesus Christ is my Saviour, Redeemer, and best
friend. I love you all. :) Thank you so much for all of your support and prayers.
:) And I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen. :)
Love,
Sister
Heather Glena Moody
