Sister Griffeth and I got caught in the rain. This is our wet selfie!
Hello!
This week has been CRAZY! Wow.
After our P-day festivities on Monday,
we went to a member's home for Family Home Evening. He was just called as
ward mission leader (we now have two ward mission leaders), and had FHE planned
for us to bring our investigators. After calling, visiting, and
confirming with MANY people, nobody showed up. Although it was
discouraging to have this activity planned and everybody falling through last
minute, Brother Buckle gave a wonderful lesson about prophets. We talked
about how we can best help our investigators for future activities we
hold. The ward members are becoming stronger, and it is so good to see.
We had district meeting and Sister
Griffeth gave a training on the Atonement. It was amazing!!
After district meeting, we had a lesson
with a man named Hassan. He is our miracle! Just as a back story,
we met him on Saturday as we were stopping to visit some less active
members. We got to the door of the flat of a less active member, and I
just felt sick. I went to knock, and something stopped me. It
didn't feel good AT ALL. Sister Griffith felt the same. We thought
about leaving a card, but that also felt wrong. It confused us to feel so
weird about it, but we headed back and started walking on the street.
Within about 30 seconds, we saw a 50ish year old man getting into his
car. We felt impressed to yell "hello", and he responded by
asking us where we were from. When we told him about where we were from,
who we are, and invited him to church, he said he really wanted to come.
We gave him a card with the address to the Visitors' Centre, and he had a group
of about 4 others come. We have given plenty of cards with not much luck,
but he ended up texting us on Sunday saying that he wanted to meet with
us. We asked Charity, a new member in the ward, to meet us at the
chapel. Hassan came 20 minutes early. We taught him about church,
watched "He is Risen", and "Because He Lives". The
whole lesson was centered on Christ, and the Spirit was SO strong. He is
a "less-active" Muslim, but he has SO much faith in Christ. We
committed him to be baptized on September 26th. He doesn't live in our
area so we will be referring him, but it doesn't matter because we KNOW that we
were meant to meet him. That was the reason we felt like we shouldn't knock. If
we had, we would have spent more time there and would have just missed him.
The next day we delivered a note and a
sunflower to Kemi and Angela. They have both been going through so much
at the moment, and we wanted them to know that we cared. :) They both expressed
their appreciation and I just love them both so much. It's incredible! :)
Hassan came into the Visitors' Centre
for another lesson on Friday! Charity was happy to come, as well.
He said that he had read the introduction to the Book of Mormon and watched The
Prophet of the Restoration about 6 times. What?! We didn't even tell him
about the movie!! So wonderful!
A man named Derrick also came into the
Visitors' Centre. As we were talking with him, an image of one of the
"I'm a Mormon" videos flashed through Sister Griffeth's mind.
We directed him to the board with the messages and played a video about a
single father who had gone through divorce. After he watched it, he
turned to us and said, "Why did you choose that video?" We looked him
in the eyes and told him that we are representatives of Jesus Christ, and
that's the video He wanted him watch. He explained that it was very
similar to what he has gone through. We invited him to meet with missionaries,
and he accepted. It was truly incredible!
Saturday we had a farewell breakfast
for Sister Phillips, and then the Whitechapel elders had a baptism!! It was
wonderful! :)
Sunday we had 3 investigators come to
church!! Angela is really sick, so she couldn't make it, and Kemi wasn't able
to. But a members non-member fiance came! She is really excited to learn and so
we will hopefully see her this week. :) Also, Hassan came! (He wanted to come
with us for the first time, before he goes to the one in Wimbledon, where he
lives). AND HE BROUGHT A FRIEND!! He also gave his input on Faith in Jesus
Christ during Gospel Principles, and man, he could have taught the whole
lesson! He's wonderful.
SO! It's transfers week!! And...I'M
STAYING IN WHITECHAPEL!!! I could NOT be happier!!!! Sad to say, Sister Griffeth
is leaving. :( But she is just heading to my birth place of Hyde Park 2. :) And
I will be with....Sister Wai from California!! I am so, so, so, so, excited!!
It's going to be a great transfer. I will also continue to be the VC STL
with Sister Lung!
This week, I really learned what the
scripture in 2 Timothy 1:7-8 "7. For God hath no given us the spirit of
fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 8. Be not thou therefore
ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou
partaker of the afflictions of the gospel to the power of God;" It's so
important to be bold. We had someone ask us who decided where we go on our
missions and instead of pulling the usual "Well, it's basically we just
submit paper and get assigned" I decided to look them in the eyes and Say
"We have a living day prophet and his apostles on the earth, and through
revelation, they decided. So ultimately, God chose." It was just so much
more powerful, and changed the tour. They left the VC with a Book of Mormon,
and commitment to come to church.
The Gospel is true, baptism is the way
to fully access the Atonement, we are lead by prophets and apostles, Christ is
my Saviour, and there is NOTHING to be ashamed of.
I love you all! Thanks for everything.
:)
