Hello all!
This week has been filled with things that, when daily
planning at the end of each day, cause you to burst out in laughter and saying
"Remember that moment when..." For example...
That moment when you are traveling to an appointment, they
text you and cancel, but it's okay because you always have a backup plan!
Except you forgot the addresses for your backup plan. So you end up street
contacting/bus finding for 2 hours. In the rain. Without an umbrella. And while
doing so, a man who speaks very little English offers you a hardboiled egg.
Or that moment when you ask the man next to you on the bus
about the violin he has, and he opens it and you see that it is a 1/4 size, and
only has 2 strings. He then proceeds to tell you that it's the "two string
edition" and a cello. Then he offers to play it for you and it makes
some...haha...interesting notes. Pretty sure the WHOLE bus was listening. Then
when we got off he started yelling and waving. "I'LL CALL YOU. WHEN DO YOU
GO BACK TO AMERICA?! I'LL CALL YOU!!!!"
Or that moment when you find out that you eternal
investigator from Huntingdon is GETTING BAPTISED ON SATURDAY! WOOT!
So! Highlights of the week. We had a lesson with Vincent on
Tuesday and it wet really well. We taught lesson 1, but he had already read to
Chapter 7 in the Book of Mormon! He started out by saying "I have a
question. So Nephi had a lot more faith than his brothers, right? Why?"
Man, he just has great questions. And he seemed to understand really well, even
though his English isn't the best. Then we taught him again on Sunday before
church and talked about faith and baptism. He had just read about when Nephi
see's the tree of life, and he explained what he thought it meant, and MAN he
nailed it haha. It was so great! We committed him to be baptised on December
5th, and he said he would pray about it. He also stayed for all 3 meetings, and
met some members who served French speaking missions. It was awesome. :)
I had an exchange this week and I was with my favourite
Italian, Sister Epicoco! He met these 2 Ghanaians on the street, who were SO
happy to talk about God with us. They women start crying, and the Spirit was
really strong. Hopefully we will see them again this upcoming Sunday! :)
We had dinner with Rose and her less-active son, and
non-member husband were there! We taught about temples are trying to help them
see the eternal perspective of active membership in the church.
We had a phone lesson with Jack, our online investigator. We
talked a lot about baptism and he said he would pray about it. He went to the
open house for the Montreal temple and LOVED it. He is so great and so sweet!
He really loves the Gospel, and is loving learning more.
Friday, we got the BEST Facebook message from Kemi! So, she
had disappeared for a while, then just messaged us and said "Hey sisters,
can I get baptised on Sunday?" And then told us about how she had received
a very strong prompting to get baptised this month. WHAT. I literally fell on
the ground when we read that. So we messaged her back, told her that we were so
happy for her and when could we meet, etc...but then heard NOTHING. Weird. So
then she came to church late, and we didn't get a chance to talk to her. Well
when she introduced herself in Gospel principles...she said "Hi, I'm Kemi,
and I'm getting baptised on the 29th of this month" DOUBLE WHAT. Haha so
we talked afterward and she is so solid for it! She's really happy, and so are
we!! :)
Zone Conference was this week and it was AH-MAZING. It was
based a lot on the talk "Stay By the Tree" by Elder Pearson. One of
my favourite quotes from it is "Tribulation is an inevitable and
indispensable part of our eternal progression...Be patient, cling to truth;
understanding will come." And how he talks about how "hanging in
there" is not a principle of the Gospel, and enduring to the end, requires
action and faith and obedience. Also how he talked about honouring our
covenants. And it's just so great! I recommend rereading it if you haven't
lately.
Well! I know this Gospel is true. It's been a rough few
weeks, mostly mentally. But someone very wise told me that when we struggle,
the most growth comes. I know that this is God's work, and that we must always
be constantly standing as a witness of Jesus Christ at all times. The world is
changing, but God never will. Wickedness is out there, but we have the truth
and eternal happiness. I'm so grateful for this opportunity I have to serve,
even though it's going by way to fast!!
Love you all! Thanks for everything!
